Pho Hien Vuong LogoYes, It's THAT Good!

The first time I went to Pho Hien Vuong (maybe 12 years ago) it occupied part of a small, nondescript strip shopping center—today, it’s taken over the entire place. There’s a simple reason why: It’s that good. If you like Vietnamese or Thai cuisine, don’t delay in making a lunch or dinner trip to Pho Hien Vuong. I promise, you will thank me later!

Location

4109 Spring Garden Street
Greensboro, NC 27407

Hours

  • Monday - Thursday:  lunch 11 AM - 3:30 PM, dinner 5 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Friday - Sunday:  11 AM - 9:30 PM

The Menu

I am a big fan of Vietnamese fresh spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce, and this restaurant has delicious ones—both a shrimp version and a vegetarian version are tasty! I get them as an appetizer at dinner or as a light lunch in and of themselves. Other folks who have eaten at Pho Hien Vuong with me have tried the fried rolls, too, and proclaimed them delicious, as well. I like that Pho Hien Vuong offers a variety of soups and appetizers like fried tofu, tom yum shrimp soup, bean curd and vegetable soup, and meatball soup, plus the aforementioned fresh and fried spring rolls.Vietnamese cuisine in Greensboro

Everything I’ve ever eaten there has been fresh, crisp, and well prepared. I figured it had to be a good sign that the second time I ever went there, there was a huge group of people of Vietnamese descent eating at a large table near the back! All pho noodle soup dishes—11 different varieties, including steak cooked to order—are served with a beautiful basket of fresh bean sprouts, basil, cilantro, lemon, and jalapeno pepper. I’ve been impressed with the fish stew in pottery pot, which tasted just like my friend’s Vietnamese mom makes it, and the chicken curry, which is a Thai yellow curry.

The Price

There is a ton to choose from, ranging from basic fare to more adventurous. Prices are quite reasonable for the huge amount of food you receive in most dishes—dinner ranges from many dishes priced at $8.95 to a few near $14. If you go for lunch, Pho Hien Vuong has a terrific lunch special menu with daily options like vegetarian street noodles, beef basil (yum!), and shrimp fried rice at $5.25 and $5.75.

The Only Drawback:  Parking

The only drawback to this restaurant—as you’ll see if you look at Yelp reviews https://www.yelp.com/biz/pho-hien-vuong-greensboro - is the parking situation. There just isn’t enough parking in the lot directly in front of the restaurant, and even overflow parking around the block is iffy during busy hours. I suggest going a little early or a little late – just to avoid the parking problem and crowd.
